Good morning Campbelltown.
Why Driveway Cracks Are Common in Campbelltown Homes
Concrete cracks are more than often could be stopped if you ask your builder or the driveway installer to cut the slab into pieces. So, best way to avoid those nasty cracks is by saw cutting and creating joints.
Unfortunately, important as they are, this simple step is often ignored. And that results in the future failures.
When the concrete slab expands and/or shrinks under severe Aussie conditions: Campbeltown harsh sun and sudden storm rains, that’s when the cracks are initiated and they will propagate in time.
Hence, your driveway looks great the first week, but six months down the road you have an absolute disaster.
Simple Steps to Seal and Protect Your Concrete
Now to important part, how to fix them?
Well, first things first. Create joints. Cut your slab int smaller pieces.
Even 3/4 cuts would do great. It is for sure better than nothing.
This way you know that those nasty cracks will not appear again the future.
But for now, we need to fix the existing cracks. Luckily, this one is a Sunday job.
I usually recommend all things Sika, a trusted international brand with a long history of quality products in concrete and cement.
You can get a small Sika 1 litre kit epoxy repair adhesive pack from any tool shop. [click here for a Bunnings store]
Other solution: go with a concrete bug. These are cementious-based products with a vinyl ester resins base.
After adding the intitor/activator, it gives you 5-15 minutues to apply.
You can get them from most toolshops, or just find them in Campbeltown Bunnings.
After mixing and prep part, just apply the epoxy into those cracks and fill them.
Let them cure hard and then you can sand/grind them back to make them flush.
Benefits Your Neighbours Already See
As a rule of thumb, your 100 SQM driveway needs to be cut in 4-8 pieces. The more the merrier!
If you can do the above simple step to ptach up those ugly cracks, cutting the slab into tiny pieces ensures longevity of your driveway.
It certainly looks much better, and even safer. Ready to go an extra mile? Seal your concrete with an acrylic concrete sealer or with a special exteroir-grade, UV-stable epoxy floor coating for outdoor.
